Advice for X-FILES fanfic writing/posting/tumblr
I’m late to the party. I just discovered X-Files fanfic a few months ago and dipped my toe in the writing pond a few weeks ago. I have been so enjoying your works: @storybycorey @cultureisdarkbeer @admiralty-xfd @gay-crouton @somekindofseizure @spookydarlablack @lokisgame @leiascully @somekindofseizure #speechteacher #justtoomuch #icedteainthebag #lepusarcticus #ATTHS_TWICE #justtoomuch #agoodwoman #h0ldthiscat #msrafterdark #aloysia_virgata *there are many more if you, I’m just quite astonished at how imaginative and talented you all are.
So, I am feeling my way in the dark and would love any advice for getting the best out of AO3 and a few days ago I created a tumblr account as I think I need one to participate in writing swaps, etc
So, how do you join writing swaps / battles, any tumblr tips, posting to AO3 tips/ writing tips. Prendend I’m a newborn and don’t know anything 🙃
Any other advice welcome,
Sarah xxx
Also, I’m Australian and so write with British spelling and sometimes I’m not such or the exact American noun for things, does that tend to bother readers?
NEW AUTHOR ALERT!! Show some love!!!
G'day Sarah. Fellow Aussie writer here. Welcome! There are always challenges, prompt lists, fic swaps and workshops to join. Follow your faves, send asks, reblog, request prompts and people will get to know you. I run fic workshops, next one will be end September, so follow @just-fic-already and you'll get the info. @gaycrouton runs the fic exchanges. There's an @xfpornbattle currently open, if smut is your thing. It's Fictober next month and then we'll be celebrating Halloween and other seasonal MSR delights. If you want to tag me when you upload a story, I'm always up to promote newbies. 💜
Hey, Sarah! Welcome to the fandom!
I don’t have that much advice besides interacting with people, not being shy to send asks or tag them in your posts (I was really shy when I first joined, but now I’ve gotten over that fear).
Also, Twitter is a good way of interacting with people, so I’m on there as well.
I hope you’ll find this is a very welcoming fandom as I did when I first joined.
(also, the British english thing doesn’t bother me the least, I’m Brazilian, but was alphabetized in British English, so it just flows smoothly to me - even more than American).
